My persona 4 game does not want to work any more! It fell out of the box and got some nasty scratches.... I have one of those disk scratch removers but often my playstation hates the markings it makes... Anyone got any advice?
Oh! And has anyone else played it? What do you think?

Sad to hear a classic died. The only reason my Ps2 is still set up is Persona 4. I
liked the game - it's different, although the combat system is sometimes harsh - instant kill enemies in the second dungeon, a main character who can't be ressurected and no mid level saves. The sheer amount of hidden stuff makes it one of the only RPGs I've properly replayed though and the story is full of little clues that make so much more sense the second time through. (Though the loading times sting a bit - all those long pauses while it fades to black...) In my opinion it's one of the hidden gems of gaming, and its one of those rare RPGs where the plot is original.
Anyway, scratches:
The York City Library have a cd repairing machine apparently. Last I heard they fixed cds for a couple of quid and its what they use to keep their collection de-coastered so it's probably a good machine at that.
Also is your Ps2 on it's side? I found my old Ps2 read scratched disks a lot better when it was flat rather than in tower configuration.
Failing that I thought I saw a copy in one of the York shops for a tenner...
Hope that helps. -Riv

Oddly white toothpaste sometimes works when rubbed in with a soft cloth. I have used that to make my computer CDs readable in the past (although now I just need to read them long enough to burn an image admittedly enough).
Cheers, Rob

I thound out the trick about what side to put the ps2... I have not heared the one about the toothpaste mind..... nut I have triend crazy things in the past, including soap and wetting the disk so that the water fills the cracks.
Anyway, I just love the characters in persona 4.... and the weared dark tone it takes with the plot and events. However, I am a huge Shin Megami Tensei fan. I even have the origional ones for snes on my computer with the english patch (not the megami tensei and megami tensei 2 for NES though but they where made by different people and 1 was based on some dodgy sounding japanese novel that they made a dodgy anime out of so I dont think im missing much there.... but 2 is ment to be good... shame I dont speak japanese and there is not a patch yet mind...)
They all have dark kinda stories and all (exept for persona 3 and 4) are filled with lots of recruitable demons (they just swap demons with personas in persona, all the same creatures and the like). However for the particularly religious I would not recommend you look into the main series as you could be offended. For those with an open mind, all the plots are pritty kick ass. What failed some of the earlier games mind was repetition and several annoyences they managed to fix for the recent persona games but shin megami tensei games are all pritty hardcore but I highly recommend them if you think you can take it. The origional Shin megami tensei is in particularly good storywise (it stands the test of time being way ahead of its time) and for me at least is highly addictive but you have to be persistent and put up with its age. Its also unlike most japanese rpgs in being a first person dungion crawl.
All Shin Megami tensei games (barring the digital devil saga games which tried to make itself more like a jrpg) have the simular fusion aspect (with arcana swiched for demon clans and there is no socal link stuff) but demons actually are party members and you have to recruit them, yes, sounding a bit pokemon here but in general they are more badass and you have to convince them to join you by talking to them and bribing them which is cool.
If you can not stand the oldness mind, track down Shin Megami tensei : Lucifers call (better known as nocturne everywhere else but england) Its third person, more recent and has dante from devil may cry in it which is kinda awsome. Or there is even a free online game, Shin Megami Tensei :imagine which is pritty cool and I love for the battle system. Its one of the few that does not have one of those horrable autoattack systems that make me sleepy......
Anyway! In short, just check out the series..... and Persona 3 of course. Remember to get the FES version.... or wait for the PSP version with some kinda butterfly effect on the story where half the plot changes becouse you can be a girl... I recommend you play through FES still as it has a mini sequal and I think the portable classes as not better or worse but another way of experiencing the story. I say this as stuff is to be added but there is no mini sequal and its all menus instead of walking around outside of the dungion I think.
Anyway, there is my megaten fanboy rant out he way....
